Leadership

Richard A. Newman is the founder and Managing Partner of Lava Wealth Management.  He has been investing in public companies, private companies, and real estate for himself and his family for decades and has founded this firm to provide investment advice and management to others.

His prior experience covers a wide range of activities.  For years, Richard worked as a partner in two family offices that were focused exclusively on private equity transactions which involved the acquisition, management, and, finally, divestiture of companies.  For one of those family offices, he helped raise some of the $66 million from private equity funds, family offices and high net worth individuals used to purchase a platform postsecondary school company, then subsequently helped source and close six follow-on transactions. Ultimately, the efforts proved successful and culminated when the company became  Lincoln Educational Services (NASDAQ: LINC), a public company in the post-secondary education niche.  He eventually founded Atlantis Associates, Inc., an independent sponsor pursuing control private equity transactions in the middle and lower middle markets.

Richard has also worked as a a teacher, school administrator, investment banker and turnaround consultant.  His commercial career began in crisis management, consulting to financially troubled companies.  His clients included companies in the manufacturing, natural resources, retail, and service industries.  This phase of his career concluded when he identified an opportunity in a failing NY-based retail sporting goods business.   Richard managed to reorganize the operations and return the business  to profitability.  Despite lacking any experience in retail, other than as a shopper, he tripled sales, won numerous industry awards and accolades, and then sold it profitably to competitors.

Richard received his BA, with honors, from Brown University, an MA (Education) from the Stanford University School of Education, and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.  He is happily married and has two fabulous daughters.
